Clear aligners are an orthodontic device used to offer a transparent, plastic alternative to dental braces in order to straighten and align the teeth.

Clear aligners are custom fitted to an individual’s teeth and provide a discreet and less invasive option compared to traditional braces.

The average price of clear aligners can vary based on factors such as the brand of aligner, the complexity of the treatment, and the specific treatment plan.

On average, clear aligner treatments typically cost around £3500, with the range falling to approximately £1,500 and rising to £5,000 or more.

Are clear aligners effective?

Clear aligners can offer an effective treatment for various issues such as mild to moderate crowding, spacing, and bite problems. They gently align and straighten the teeth via applying controlled pressure. However, severe cases might require traditional braces.

How long does the treatment and process take?

Clear aligners must be worn 22-24 hours per day and on average, treatment can take anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. Every aligner is worn for a specific period (usually 1-2 weeks) before being replaced by the next aligner. They should only be removed for eating, drinking (except for water) and cleaning. Retainers are required to be worn after the clear aligner process is completed.

Are clear aligners painful?

Most people experience some slight discomfort when wearing clear aligner as it is applying slight pressure to shift the teeth. However, this discomfort is generally mild and temporary.

How often do I need to see my orthodontist during clear aligner treatment?

Clear aligners require regular check-up appointments with the treating dentist, usually every 4-6 weeks, in order to monitor progress and provide you with different sets of aligners depending how far along the teeth have progressed.

Can I play sports or play a musical instrument with a clear aligner?

Clear aligners can be used while participating in most sports and playing musical instruments. However, for contact sports it is advisable to wear a protective sports mouthguard instead to protect the teeth.
