Young Dentist Study Club

Join us for our series of Study Clubs aimed towards Young Dentists designed to be beneficial in Dental Practice, including courses in areas such as Dental Implants, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry. All courses are CPD accredited and complimentary.

Aims and Objectives:

  • Review the 2023 European Federation of Periodontology Guidelines
  • Explore strategies to avoid patients developing peri-implantitis
  • Discuss the treatment techniques for non-surgical management of peri-implant diseases
  • Discuss the surgical treatment of peri-implantitis
  • Review supportive peri-implant care timelines and protocols

Speaker – Marie Sharkey

Marie qualified in 2011 with Merit in Clinical Dentistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Following qualification she worked in general dental practice in the North East of England for a few years before returning to Northern Ireland. In 2017 Marie was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow.

Marie’s postgraduate area of interest is periodontology; this field has grown to encompass the treatment of disease in the supporting tissues surrounding dental implants, in addition to the treatment of gum disease associated with teeth. She completed a Masters with Distinction in Clinical Periodontology in 2022 at the University of Central Lancashire.

Marie is committed to developing patient focused treatment plans. She prides herself on her evidence-based approach to treatment planning and frequently attends courses focusing on the field of periodontology, including a recent visit to Italy to study at the Zucchelli Institute. She offers a wide range of treatments including surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapies. Marie is a member of the British Society of Periodontology.

Speaker – Rachael Lilley

Rachael has been working as a Dental Hygiene Therapist for 10 years after graduating with distinction and finishing top of her class at Newcastle University in 2013.

She has a special interest in implant maintenance and gum treatments to help improve oral health and increase the longevity of your dental implants, together with helping you keep your natural teeth for as long as possible.  She is skilled at providing easy tips and techniques that can be applied at home to help protect your dental implants and gums. Rachael is on the committee for the BSDHT and together with the rest of the team, helps provide a strong educational and social community for other hygienists and therapists in Northern Ireland. She has also delivered engaging educational presentations to the wider dental community.

Rachael has previously been nominated for NI Dental Hygienist of the Year and is committed to continuing her professional education.
